Last Light

One of my favorite vacation spots is the Hopfensee in Bavaria. The landscape is simply breathtaking and it is a true escape from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. This picture was taken on a hot August evening a while after sunset. The very last light of the long European summer day was dwindling away.

Princely View

Princely View

When visiting a historical spot, I always have a sense of history weighing on my shoulders. Here in Schloß Hohenschwangau I picture King Ludwig II moving through these rooms and looking out the window. He is widely thought to have been a disturbed man, I wonder if he felt the same soothing effect of the mountains that I did. Such a view is simply breathtaking.

Søro Sunset

Søro Sunset

Water always has a relaxing feeling to it. Whether on the beach, by a lake, or just taking a shower, water relaxes me. Sunsets are simply beautiful too, and my favorite time of day. This picture was taken in Søro, Denmark. It is a small town, with a renouned academy and a beautiful lake. The summer evening walk around the lake was a great way to relax after a day of playing tourist and driving.

Hopfen am See

Hopfen am See is another resort town in the Allgäu region of the Bavarian Alps. The first few times I visited, I stayed at a bed and breakfast run by an elderly couple. I have always found it fascinating to talk to older people, I always felt I could learn a lot. It is like having a living documentary or history book. In this case, I heard stories about being expelled from the Sudetenland in World War II. Hearing personal war stories really gives you insight on the personal impact of the war and makes me thankful that I have not been directly affected by war.

Placid Lake

Placid Lake

I love the serenity of this placid lake and the seemingly solitary man in a rowboat. This picture was taken with a telephoto lens and cuts out the others on the lake, the factory nearby, and the busy highway. To me, it represents the idea that no matter the hustle and bustle in your life, we can take some quiet time for yourself. Finding peace is important. Even if it is just 5 mins of quiet, we all need to make the effort, even in the middle of a busy modern life.

This was an easy daylight snapshot from a balcony zoomed in fully at 250mm. The shot came out much more dramatic than I expected, but I am very happy with the result. I changed the contrast just a bit in Lightroom, but didn’t do anything further.
