There is beauty in simplicity. I think the beauty of this photo is that it is rather simple. Walking through Biograd, Croatia, I noticed a flowering bush. It was near an unspectacular gray house that wasn’t that well-kept. I stopped and started taking photos of the flowers. The first one didn’t come out, but as I moved around the bush, this composure came to me. But I didn’t realize the full impact of this until I viewed this in full size on my computer.
Cartoons often show frogs sitting on a lily pad. I don’t know if they do this in real life, but water lilies do have a certain intrigue and beauty about them. While touring Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square outside of Philadelphia, I learned many interesting facts about the different kinds of water lilies. The water lily garden is amazing, and a beloved spot for photographers. If you are ever in the area, please do go, it is worth it!
I always try to respect sacred ground, even if it is from an ancient religion or from a people with a different belief system than I have. Grønsalen is located on the Danish island of Møn and is a long barrow burial site dating back to around 3500 BC. The weather was beautiful and the site was peaceful. I thought the site would either not stir any emotion or feel like a cemetery. Instead, I felt more respectful to those people who have long passed and chose this site to bury their dead. It is amazing to know people were walking around, living their lives, and honoring their dead that long ago on a spot where I was standing. It makes me wonder how similar their lives were and think of how different their lives were to mine.
I am blessed to have many friends and a large family. Unfortunately I live very far away from many of them. With the communications the Internet enables, it is easy than ever to stay in touch. Still, it isn’t the same as seeing someone in person. There are a number of things that always make me think of family and friends. Daisies for example. Daisies remind me of a good friend from college. We don’t see each other often, but whenever I see a daisy I think of her. It’s nice to have little reminder like that. It’s also a reminder to reach out to your friends and family, even if it is just a quick hello. That is at least how I treat these reminders.
