The Little Mermaid statue is one of Copenhagen’s landmarks. It is located a bit of a distance outside the center, along the waterfront and near a beautiful park. Tourists flock to see it, and often you cannot get a good picture of the statue without a bunch of other tourists in the way. People are often disappointed in how little the statue is.
Train stations are interesting places. Some stations like 30th Street Station in Philadelphia are majestic older buildings with beautiful architecture. Others, like Penn Station in New York City, are failed modern designs, ugly and overcapacity. Copenhagen station is a turn of the century building. Beyond the architecture, the mix of people is also something that always catches my eye. I am a people watcher and fascinated by the hustle and bustle.
Train stations, bus stops, waiting rooms, lines in the store, airports. We spend a lot of time waiting. Sometimes I welcome the pause, but mostly I am just impatient wanting to move on and get the task at hand done or get to my destination. I wonder how much time I have spent waiting in line?
