The glow of the Alps is soothing. In general, I find the mountains to be relaxing and peaceful. When stressed, I often shut my eyes and think of myself somewhere in the mountains. Living relatively close to the Alps, I have been able to visit them quite often. What I really like about this picture are the colors. The dark green at the bottom and the dark blue at the top in contrast with the pastel colors in between. The moon shines bright and the mountains are aglow. What is your peaceful place?

When visiting a historical spot, I always have a sense of history weighing on my shoulders. Here in Schloß Hohenschwangau I picture King Ludwig II moving through these rooms and looking out the window. He is widely thought to have been a disturbed man, I wonder if he felt the same soothing effect of the mountains that I did. Such a view is simply breathtaking.

The mountains fascinate me. Majestic, powerful, foreboding, fun, beautiful – there are many ways to describe mountains. In 2013 I spent Easter weekend in the Bavarian Alps. I had previously only been there in the summer months, and it was (un)surprisingly a completely different world. The snow really changes the landscape and the mountains looked more beautiful than ever – when you could see them. It was cloudy most of the time, but the owner of the B&B said that if you drive through a certain pass to Grän, Austria, it would be less cloudy. She knew her microclimates because the mountains poked through the clouds and the sun did as well.
