Look Up

I was told that you can tell who the tourists in New York City are because they are the ones looking up. I always look up in any city with tall buildings. I have loved skyscrapers since I was little. The Chrysler Building pictured here – formerly the world’s tallest building – is one of my favorites. It is an art deco building, similar in style to the taller and more popular Empire State, but with a more elegant look. What’s your favorite skyscraper?

A Little Candle

Photography is all about light. While harder to capture images at night, there are so many different ways that you can manipulate the light to make an awesome image. This photo was taken at an event celebrating light and a park in Mannheim was illuminated in many different ways. It was a nice evening, and I love the ways this picture captures the atmosphere of the night.

Telašćica

I’ve posted before about sea gulls and in fact this very boat ride to Telašćica Nature Park in Croatia. I like this picture because it is full of action, you only can see a bit of what is going on, yet you can still imagine the entire scene. I can imagine the birds having a conversation. It is hard to imagine that just 10 years ago smartphones were not ubiquitous.  It is easy to forget every single thing smartphones have replaced. One really has to take a step back to realize how much smartphones have changed social norms. I find that the conversation around modern communication methods are usually one sided. Social media companies talk about how wonderful their tools are, while critics predict the downfall of society. I don’t technology is inherently good or bad, how we use it decides it.

Kristalspiegelsaal

I cherish little relics of the past that live on today. The Kristallspiegelsaal, or crystal mirror hall, belongs to a hotel and restaurant in the town of Altenahr, Germany. In this small town in the Ahr Valley, tradition lives on. I wasn’t able to find out when the this opened, but it looks like early 1970’s to me. I think about all of the fun times that have been had here, the drunken dramas, the meals eaten together with friends and family. I also wonder how much longer a place like this will survive.
