Look Up

I was told that you can tell who the tourists in New York City are because they are the ones looking up. I always look up in any city with tall buildings. I have loved skyscrapers since I was little. The Chrysler Building pictured here – formerly the world’s tallest building – is one of my favorites. It is an art deco building, similar in style to the taller and more popular Empire State, but with a more elegant look. What’s your favorite skyscraper?

I took this picture to get the Chrysler Building. I couldn’t get a good angle without the lamp in the way, so I tried to embrace the fact the lamp was in the picture. This was a gray cloud day and the picture was a bit washed out, so I decided to try black and white with high contrast and I really like the effect. It is almost like someone pasted newspaper clippings together.

  1. This is my favorite skyscraper too, way more classy than Empire State. The lamp increases visual interest for me since it adds a vanishing point out of frame where the extension of it and the spire intersect. Altogether a cool shot imo.
