Modern Communication

Observing human behavior can be very interesting. What strikes me about this picture is that the two people are each holding cell phones. The woman is looking at her cell phone while talking. It is hard to imagine that just 10 years ago smartphones were not ubiquitous.  It is easy to forget every single thing smartphones have replaced. One really has to take a step back to realize how much smartphones have changed social norms. I find that the conversation around modern communication methods are usually one sided. Social media companies talk about how wonderful their tools are, while critics predict the downfall of society. I don’t technology is inherently good or bad, how we use it decides it.

This picture was an easy shot, but I did more in postprocessing than usual. I converted to black in white and decreased the clarity to give it a dreamy effect. I think the decreased clarity helps add to the dream-like or disillusioning nature of the picture.
