The night I chose to spend in the park taking photos was Fasching Dienstag – fat Tuesday. The weather was cold and damp – I couldn’t feel my fingers after the first 10 minutes – and there was a slight breeze. Most people were celebrating at a festival in the town center, so park was nearly empty. A few schoolchildren were leaving as I entered.
There were 3 other photographers in the park, otherwise I had it all to myself. It was surreal to be in this vast park with these beautiful lights and have it all to myself. I took full advantage of it and was able to get pictures uninterrupted by people. I found this evening to be incredibly relaxing. Eventually they closed the park early and I was left standing in the dark. Again, the mood changes drastically when the lights are off. The park and it’d Winterlichter displays were very eerie as I walked back to the entrance. Finally I made it, realizing my tripod, my pants and shoes were covered in mud. All signs of a good outing.
