Sometimes time passes by so quickly – like today realizing that we are already a month and a half through 2016. I feel almost shell shocked at how fast time is passing. But then there are moments where time slows down and you can take it all in – the sights, the smells, the sounds.
I spent the change of years on Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands. It was amazing, something I have never done before. I rang the new year in on the beach, a quiet and beautiful way to do that. After spending New Year’s Day exploring the northern half of the island, I shot this picture on the drive back. The sunset was so beautiful, the temperature just right, and the salty air warm. It was a moment when time slowed down.
I broke a lot of rules taking this picture… Camera on automatic, taken from a moving vehicle. But it captured the moment. I particularly like the way the movement was captured in the foreground. It gives the picture a watercolor-like feel.
