This bridge has a lot of stories to tell. The Alte Brücke, or Old Bridge, in Heidelberg was first built in 1788 (actually making the bridge not very old), though other bridges have been located here since the 12th century. The Nazis destroyed the bridge in 1945 as they retreated across the Neckar. The bridge was then rebuilt a few years later. The bridge is beautiful and the view of Heidelberg Castle is amazing, making it a must-see stop on any tour of Heidelberg.
This picture captures the cold, dark evening. I did not have a tripod with me, but I wanted to see if I could get a good, long exposure shot. I used the side of the bridge for stability. The shot came out pretty well. I really like the contrast, the textures, the reflection of the light. I also like the fact that there is a subtle blur, making the scene feel alive. Some people look like ghosts, others are clear and still. This gives the picture a slightly spooky feel. I like the composition too, as the lines of the bridge draw the eye across the photo.

Beautiful capture. I like how you play games with lights and shadows 🙂
