As a kid, I always looked forward to decorating the Christmas tree. As adult, I still do. I enjoy seeing people’s Christmas trees. I think they are very personal and very interesting to look at. Personality and values come out in how it is decorated.
The Strasbourg Christmas Market is one of the most beautiful I have ever been to. It stretches throughout the entire city center with each street decorated in beautiful lights. In one of the main squares, a giant Christmas tree is decorated, with a small Christmas village underneath.
Christmas can be a magical time. Anyone who has good childhood memories of Christmas looks forward to this time of year, despite the stress and hustle it brings. Christmas lights are a highlight. In this dark time of year, cities and towns are decorated, apartments and houses lit in colors.
I have mentioned before that the contrasts in Berlin fascinate me. You can tell the city has been through a lot. But you often hear people who have been through tough times say that it made them stronger or into the person they are today. I think Berlin is like that – it wouldn’t be as cool or trendy or interesting or fun if it had not been through those rough times.
Any place where people come to a crossroads interest me: Time Square, airports, train stations. I wonder what the people have in common, where they are going, what their story is.
