In Zadar, Croatia this summer the weather was beautiful. Warm, sunny, dry. The old town was alive with people. As I was looking for things to photograph I saw these two ladies chatting and enjoying the nice summer afternoon. I wanted to taken them alone, as I thought the symmetry would make for an appealing picture. Instead, the little girl with the ice cream cone walked into the picture. I like the effect it has. It gives a bit of movement in the picture. And innocence.
I have been trying to focus more on photographing people. Part of doing this well is letting go of the feeling that you are invading people’s space or privacy. I am getting more proactive in explaining what I am doing and even offering to email a copy of the picture to the people I take. I don’t think I am where I want to be regarding photographing people, but I do feel improvement.
