London Phone Booths

Iconic sights are often photographed. Yet I have always found it thrilling to see something you know from pictures or TV in person for the first time. You don’t usually see the lines and the experience of waiting for the ferry to get to the Statue of Liberty. Or the traffic while taking a cab to see the Houses of Parliament. But part of seeing these sights live is the experience of getting to the sight, experiencing the sounds and smells – for better or for worse.

Because tourist sights and landmarks are so often photographed, it is often hard to take a photo that stands out. I have noticed that some pictures of landmarks that I absolutely love do not get many likes or response online. Unusual photos do – and that is understandable. In any case, I think this picture combines the unusual with the well-known. The picture is obviously London (or somewhere in the UK), but isn’t the picture you see every day on post cards. I was walking around London with a friend and turned a corner. It had just stopped raining and the light was really good. Yet I was still surprised at how strong the colors came out in the photo – only minimal adjustments in lightroom made to the jpg here.

Camera: Canon G9
