The Arch – Theme Week: Shapes (7/7)

The Arch

To wrap up Theme Week: Shapes I dug back deep into my archives. This is a picture of the Arch in St. Louis, MO. This was a highlight of the trip and seeing the “Gateway to the West” was a special moment for me, as it was the first time I had ever been West of the Mississippi (or even at the Mississippi River for that matter).

The Arch is a great subject to photograph, given its sleek arched shape. I considered posting some other photos where you can see the entire arch, but this one stood out. I think it is important for a photographer to capture objects/subjects in ways that you may not normally look at them. You don’t see the arch, here you see more triangles and lines curving outward. Further, you can’t really tell that this structure is 630 ft / 192 m high.

This was taken with a 4MP Casio QV-2000UX. It was a very good camera for the time and took some really nice pictures. Not enough pixels by today’s standards, but it was an awesome for it’s time.

Camera: Casio QV-2000UX
Aperture: f/5.6
Shutter Speed: 1/230
Postprocessing: Lightroom
